TET

The Teacher Eligibility Test, known as TET, is the minimum qualification in India for a person to be eligible for entrance examination for teachers. The test is mandatory for getting teaching jobs in government schools from Class 1 to Class 8.

It is conducted by both the central government and state governments of India. Most states conduct their own TET. TET is conducted on state level. Each state conducts a TET exam to recruit teachers for state government funded schools. The test is conducted in order to fulfill and achieve the goals of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. Every State & Central government will be conducting TET, such as UPTET, Bihar TET, Rajasthan TET, Haryana TET, etc. exam every year.

Job Profile and Vacancies for TET

Primary teachers are responsible for the delivery of all subjects, with particular emphasis on the core subjects like literacy, numeracy, and science.

Different states set different job roles for their TET candidates. A common nurture of job roles that can be applied for all states are:

  • You have to facilitate the students in providing guidance for overall development including mental & physical development.
  • You should adopt such teaching methodology in the classroom that induces student’s interest in the respective subject/activity.
  • As a class teacher, you have to maintain the class attendance on daily basis prior to teaching.
  • As a teacher, you will be responsible in formulating the class assignments & daily homework for the students so that their performance can be evaluated periodically.
  • You will also be responsible for completing the whole syllabus on time as directed by the state education board (as per the NCF-National Curriculum Framework guidelines).
  • Besides the above duties, you have to work in coordination with other teaching staff so that other daily activities can be exercised successfully.

Eligibility Criteria for TET

There are a set of expected eligibility criteria that a candidate should qualify to apply for TET Exam.

  1. Age Limit
  • Minimum Age Limit : 18 years
  • Maximum Age Limit: No age limit.
  1. Educational Qualification

There are set of different educational eligibility criteria for different stage of classes, i.e., Primary Stage Classes and Secondary Stage Classes. Candidate has to fulfill a requirement in both categories out of 6 to get eligible.

For Primary Stage Classes (Class 1 to 5),

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE 2002 Norms OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 – year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. E1. Ed.) OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Education (Special Education) OR
  • Graduation with 50% Marks and 1 Year B. Ed. Examination OR
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education.

For Elementary Stage Classes (Class 6 to 8),

  • Bachelor Degree and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1 – year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed.) OR
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1 – year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed.), in accordance with the NCTE Norms OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 – year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B. E1. Ed.) OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 – year B.A/B.Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed./B.Sc. Ed. OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1 – year B. Ed. / (B. Ed. Special Education).

TET Syllabus & Exam Pattern

TET consists of two papers: Paper – 1 and Paper – 2.

Paper – 1 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 1 to 5. Paper -1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam consists of 150 marks for 150 questions divided in 5 sections equally. Exam duration for paper – 1 is of 2.5 hours.

 Paper – 2 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 6 to 8. Paper -1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam consists of 150 marks for 150 questions divided in 4 sections. Exam duration for paper – 2 is of 2.5 hours.

TET Paper – 1

Paper – 1 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 1 to 5. Paper -1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. Paper has 5 sections, Child Development & Pedagogy, Language – 1, Language – 2, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Each section is of 30 marks and contains 30 questions. Exam duration for this paper is of 2.5 hours.

TET Paper – 2

Paper – 2 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 6 to 8. Paper – 2 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. Paper 2 consists of 4 sections, namely, Child Development & Pedagogy, Language – 1, Language – 2 and Mathematics & Science or Social Science. Candidates have to choose between Mathematics & Science and Social Science.
