RPF Exams

The full form of RPF is Railway Protection Force. It is a security force of the Indian Railways with the primary purpose to protect the railway passengers, passenger area and railway property. RPF is under the authority of Ministry of Railways (India) and the only security force which has the right to arrest, investigate and prosecute criminals.

It is a security force, established by an act of Railway Department, enacted by the Parliament of India. Its purpose is the better protection and security of railway property.

Railway Recruitment Board organizes RPF (Railway Protection Force) Recruitment Exam every year to select eligible candidates for the post of Constables and Sub – Inspectors. Both Male and Female candidates are recruited to the available post in Railway Protection Force.

Job Profile and Vacancies of Railway Protection Force

Railway Protection Force is a security force of India entrusted with protecting railway passengers, passenger area and property of the Indian Railways. There are various duties performed by RPF according to their department and posts.

Duties of RPF Constable:

  • Maintain peace and provide protection to railway passengers.
  • Ensures that the passenger enjoys a comfortable journey.
  • Provide protection to railway properties.
  • Collect information and tracking issues involving railway security.

Duties of a RPF Sub – Inspector:

  • They are like the Frontline Staff who needs to deal with all the anti-social elements, providing security to the passengers and making travel safe and smooth for passengers.
  • They investigate crime, arrest offenders, interrogates the concerned person, take statements of the witnesses, collect evidence and case files in the court.
  • They protect the railway tracks and signaling equipment.
  • Cooperate with all the other departments of the Indian Railways in improving the efficiency of the Indian Railways.
  • Synchronize all the activities between the Government Railway Police or Local Police and the railway administration.

Railway Protection Force has announced a total of 9736 vacancies for both Sub – Inspector and Constable posts, to filled through RPF Recruitment Exam.

Eligibility Criteria for Railway Protection Force

There are a set of expected eligibility criteria that a candidate should qualify to apply for Railway Protection Force Recruitment Exam.

  1. Age Limit
  • Minimum Age Limit : 18 years
  • Maximum Age Limit : 25 years

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • Physically Disabled: 10 years
  • Physically Disabled + OBC: 13 years
  • Physically Disabled + SC/ ST: 15 years
  1. Educational Qualification

Candidate must have done 10th (High School) in any recognized Boards in India, or ITI Certificate in SCVT/ NCVT.

Railway Protection Force Exam Pattern & Syllabus

RPF Recruitment Exam is conducted in 3 phases: CBT, PMT/ PET and Document Verification.

CBT is Computer Based Test. CBT is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam, and 3 sections of 120 marks for 120 questions to be completed in a time of 90 minutes as a whole.

PMT/ PET is Physical Measurement Test/ Physical Efficiency Test. It is the second phase of exam.

The last phase for selection is Document Verification.

RPF Computer Based Test (CBT)

CBT is Computer Based Test. CBT is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. CBT has 3 sections, which are General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning and Mathematics of 120 marks for 120 questions to be completed in a time of 90 minutes as a whole.

The final step to selection is Document Verification. The exact no. of candidates as same as the no. of vacancies are selected after this phase.

Railway Recruitment Board has yet not released vacancies for year 2019 – 20, as the exams for post of Constable and Sub – Inspectors 2018 – 19, are still going on.
