RRB ALP

Railway Recruitment Board, commonly known as RRB conducts exam to recruit exams for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP). Loco pilot is short form for the word locomotive pilot. Loco Pilot is the main operator of train to operate via messages passed to/by Station Master & Guard. Indian Railway, the world's largest network, consists of more than 1,00,000 Loco Pilots (Drivers), which forms the basic functioning team, responsible for Train Operations. They are the highest salaried staffs among the group C staffs in Indian Railways and get many more benefits.

They are the backbone of the Indian railway system. Generally locomotive engines have two Loco pilots for driving it. Their duty hours should not increase 10 hour.

Job Profile and Vacancies of RRB – ALP

After becoming Loco Pilot, you will be having the option to choose among the following:

  • Power Controller
  • Crew Controller
  • Loco Foreman (Loco Supervisor)

The job profile of an ALP is described as below.

  • He assists Loco Pilot in Driving or piloting the train. This post requires continuous attention and high degree of responsiveness. Candidate’s response to situations is tested by an Aptitude test. ALP assist Driver in performing his duties including calling out signal as soon as one is sighted, fine-tuning Loco, and attending minor repairs of the Loco.
  • The strenuous nature of the job is compensated by allowances of which the important one is Running Allowance. You are paid Running Allowance based on the monthly kilometers on the run.

Eligibility Criteria for RRB – ALP

There are a set of expected eligibility criteria that you should qualify to apply for RRB LOCO Pilot Recruitment Exam.

  1. Age Limit
  • Minimum Age Limit : 18 years
  • Maximum Age Limit : 30 years

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • Physically Disabled: 10 years
  • Physically Disabled + OBC: 13 years
  • Physically Disabled + SC/ ST: 15 years
  1. Educational Qualification

Candidate must have a certificate of Intermediate or Degree/ Diploma/ Higher Qualification in Mechanical/ Electronics/ Electrical/ Automobile Engineering from a recognized University/ Institution or class 10 with ITI certification recognized by SCVT/ NCVT.

RRB – ALP Exam Pattern & Syllabus

RRB conducts exam for ALP in 4 phases: CBT Stage 1, CBT Stage 2, CBAT and Document Verification.

CBT Stage 1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. CBT Stage 1 consists of 4 sections, of 75 marks and 75 questions and time of 60 minutes as a whole.

CBT Stage 2 has two parts: Part A and Part B. CBT Stage 2 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. Part A consists of 4 sections, where 100 questions are of 100 marks. A composite time of 120 minutes is allotted to complete this exam. Part B has only one section with 75 questions and time of 60 minutes.

CBAT is a Computer Based Aptitude Test, performed to check computer skill of a candidate.

Document Verification is the final phase of selection.

RRB – ALP CBT Stage 1

CBT Stage 1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. CBT Stage 1 consists of 4 sections, namely, Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness on Current Affairs and Basic Science & Engineering of 75 marks and 75 questions and time of 60 minutes as a whole.

RRB – ALP CBT Stage 2

CBT Stage 2 has two parts: Part A and Part B. CBT Stage 2 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. Part A consists of 4 sections, namely, Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness on Current Affairs and Basic Science & Engineering where 100 questions are of 100 marks. A composite time of 120 minutes is allotted to complete this exam.

RRB – ALP CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test)

CBAT is a Computer Based Aptitude Test, performed to check computer skill of a candidate.

The final merit list contains 70% weightage for the marks obtained in CBT Stage 2 (both Part A and Part B) and 30 % weightage for the marks obtained in CBAT.

RRB – ALP Document Verification

The final step to selection is Document Verification. The exact no. of candidates as same as the no. of vacancies are selected after this phase.
