General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC of India) is a state – owned enterprise in India. It was the sole re – insurance company in the Indian insurance market until the insurance market was open to foreign reinsurance players by late 2016 including companies from Germany, Switzerland and France. GIC has its registered office and headquarters in Mumbai. The General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC of India) holds an exam for the post of GIC Assistant ManagerGIC Assistant Manager is one of the most seeked after Insurance exams in Indian Insurance Sector. GIC conducts this recruitment exam from time – to – time for the vacancies of ‘Assistant Managers, (i.e., Generalist & Specialist) Scale I’ posts. 

The entire general insurance business in India was nationalized by the Government of India (GOI) through the General Insurance Business (Nationalization). The GOI transferred all the assets and operations of the nationalized general insurance companies to GIC and other public-sector insurance companies. After the process of mergers and integration, GIC was re-organized with four fully owned subsidiary companies: National Insurance Company Limited (NICL)New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL), Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL) and United India Insurance Company (UIIC).

Eligibility Criteria for GIC – Assistant Manager

There is a set of eligibility criteria which candidate has to clear in order to appear for GIC – Assistant Manager Exam.

  1. Age Limit
  • Minimum Age Limit: 21 years
  • Maximum Age Limit: 30 years

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • Physically Disabled: 10 years
  • Physically Disabled + OBC: 13 years
  • Physically Disabled + SC/ ST: 15 years
  1. Educational Qualification
  • The Candidate should acquire Bachelors’ Degree from a recognized University/ Institution.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for Online Written Test is 60% for General & OBC, and 50% for SC/ ST.


GIC – Assistant Manager Exam Pattern and Syllabus

GIC Assistant Manager Exam is conducted in only 2 phases: Online Written Exam & GD/ Interview.

Online Written Test is the first phase of exam for GIC – Assistant Manager post. In this exam, there are 3 segments: Part A (Objective), Part B (Objective) and Part C (Descriptive), which contain 123 questions for 150 marks and to be completed in a time – duration of 150 minutes.

After qualifying, first phase of exam candidate has to go through Interview.

GIC – Assistant Manager Paper – 1/ Prelims

Online Written Test is the first phase of exam for GIC – Assistant Manager post. In this exam, there are 3 segments: Part A (Objective), Part B (Objective) and Part C (Descriptive), which contain 123 questions for 150 marks and to be completed in a time – duration of 150 minutes. There is a slight difference in Exam between General Stream and Specialists. For both the exams, only Part A differs from each other and other both parts are same. The written test is bilingual, i.e., Hindi & English except for the test of English Language.

Part A is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam, where all questions are of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) type. Part A is Higher Order Reasoning Ability/ Critical Thinking for General Stream and Technical & Professional Knowledge test in their corresponding discipline for Specialists. Part A contains 40 questions for 40 marks and duration of 30 minutes.

Part B is also an Objective Based Online Mode Exam, where all questions are of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) type. Part B is divided in 4 further sections: Reasoning, English Language, General Awareness and Numerical Ability & Computer Literacy. In each section, there are 20 questions of 20 marks and contains a composite time – duration of 60 minutes.

Part C is a Descriptive Test in English Language. There are only 3 questions in this section, which are essay writing, letter writing, precise and comprehension. This section carries 30 marks and to be completed in 60 minutes.

GIC – Assistant Manager Group Discussion/ Interview

The candidates are shortlisted for Group Discussion and Interview on the basis of overall marks scored in Part A + Part B + Part C of written examination out of total 150 marks. The minimum marks for Group Discussion & Interview are 60% marks respectively.
