RPSF
The full form of RPSF is Railway Protection Security Force. It is a special security force of the Indian Railways with the primary purpose to protect the railway passengers, working and passengers’ area and other railway property. RPSF is under the authority of Ministry of Railways (India) and the only security force which has the right to arrest, investigate and prosecute criminals. RPSF provides security to passengers, railway department, officers and even to RPF (in some critical cases).
A recruitment examination is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board – Railway Protection Special Force (RRB – RPSF) for recruitment of suitable Indian nationals to the post of Constable in the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF).
It is a security force, established by an act of Railway Department, enacted by the Parliament of India. Its purpose is the better protection and security of railway property.
Railway Recruitment Board organizes RPSF (Railway Protection Security Force) Recruitment Exam every year to select eligible candidates for the post of Constables and Sub – Inspectors. Both Male and Female candidates are recruited to the available post in Railway Protection Security Force.
Job Profile and Vacancies of Railway Protection Security Force
Railway Protection Security Force is a security force of India entrusted with protecting railway passengers, passenger area and property of the Indian Railways. There are various duties performed by RPSF according to their department and posts.
- The duties of the members of Special Protection Force were more difficult than that of those in the Armed Wing of Uniform branch of RPF.
- They have to undergo intensive training and to remain in a state of readiness to move out at a short notice.
- Both in the mobilizing camp and in the field they had to put up with very austere condition of living.
- Their duties would not be in shifts of specified duration as in the case of armed Wing or Uniform Branch of Railways.
- In the field, they are exposed to a certain amount of risk.
The RPSF being well organized, fully trained, better equipped and readily available in reserve with Ministry of railways at a very short notice, is detailed to assist the Railway administration and in handling the situation in a restrained manner with minimum use of the force permissible under the law.
Eligibility Criteria for Railway Protection Security Force
There are a set of expected eligibility criteria that a candidate should qualify to apply for Railway Protection Security Force Recruitment Exam.
- Age Limit
- Minimum Age Limit : 18 years
- Maximum Age Limit : 25 years
Age Relaxation
- SC/ ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- Physically Disabled: 10 years
- Physically Disabled + OBC: 13 years
- Physically Disabled + SC/ ST: 15 years
- Educational Qualification
Candidate must have done 10th (High School) in any recognized Boards in India, or ITI Certificate in SCVT/ NCVT.

Railway Protection Security Force Exam Pattern & Syllabus
RPSF Recruitment Exam is conducted in 3 phases: CBT, PMT/ PET and Document Verification.
CBT is Computer Based Test. CBT is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam, and 3 sections of 120 marks for 120 questions to be completed in a time of 90 minutes as a whole.
PMT/ PET are Physical Measurement Test/ Physical Efficiency Test. It is the second phase of exam.
The last phase for selection is Document Verification.
RPSF Computer Based Test (CBT)
CBT is Computer Based Test. CBT is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. CBT has 3 sections, which are General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning and Mathematics of 120 marks for 120 questions to be completed in a time of 90 minutes as a whole.
