CTET
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi.
CTET (Central Teaching Eligibility Test) is a national level examination conducted to certify eligibility of candidates to be appointed as teachers at Primary and Upper Primary level. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts CTET Exam twice in a year. It is conducted twice a year in the month of July and December. CTET 2019 July session was held on July 7, 2019 in 97 cities across India. A record 14 lakhs candidates took the exam, out of 20,84,147 registered applicants.
CTET is just a qualification required for to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in most of the institutes. CTET Certificate is awarded by Government of India, according to a candidates’ performance in the CTET Level - I and Level – II exam. After qualifying CTET, you need to apply for teaching jobs separately.
Job Profile and Vacancies for CTET
Candidates after qualifying CTET Exam at both the levels get opportunity to work as Primary School teachers. Primary teachers are responsible for the delivery of all subjects, with particular emphasis on the core subjects like literacy, numeracy, and science.
The primary teacher has many responsibilities some important responsibility as follows.
- To teach and educate students according to guidelines provided by the National Curriculum Framework (NSF).
- To teach and educate the student's full range of subject areas.
- Prepare Lesson plan & running extracurricular activities
- Assigning work, correcting and marking work carried out by his/her student
- Attending staff meetings and training and development sessions.
- Maintaining discipline in the classroom.
- Developing children’s interests, abilities and coordination using a variety of creative activities like (art, sport, and music).
Eligibility Criteria for CTET
There are a set of expected eligibility criteria that a candidate should qualify to apply for CTET Exam.
- Age Limit
- Minimum Age Limit : 18 years
- Maximum Age Limit: No age limit.
- Educational Qualification
There are set of different educational eligibility criteria for different stage of classes, i.e., Primary Stage Classes and Secondary Stage Classes. Candidate has to fulfill a requirement in both categories out of 6 to get eligible.
For Primary Stage Classes (Class 1 to 5),
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE 2002 Norms OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 – year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. E1. Ed.) OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Education (Special Education) OR
- Graduation with 50% Marks and 1 Year B. Ed. Examination OR
- Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education.
For Elementary Stage Classes (Class 6 to 8),
- Bachelor Degree and passed or appearing in final year of 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) OR
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1 – year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed.) OR
- Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1 – year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed.), in accordance with the NCTE Norms OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 – year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B. E1. Ed.) OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 – year B.A/B.Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed./B.Sc. Ed. OR
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1 – year B. Ed. / (B. Ed. Special Education).
CTET Syllabus & Exam Pattern
CTET consists of two papers: Paper – 1 and Paper – 2.
Paper – 1 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 1 to 5. Paper – 1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam consists of 150 marks for 150 questions divided in 5 sections equally. Exam duration for paper – 1 is of 2.5 hours.
Paper – 2 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 6 to 8. Paper – 2 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam consists of 150 marks for 150 questions divided in 4 sections. Exam duration for paper – 2 is of 2.5 hours.
CTET Paper – 1
Paper – 1 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 1 to 5. Paper -1 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. Paper has 5 sections, Child Development & Pedagogy, Language – 1, Language – 2, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Each section is of 30 marks and contains 30 questions. Exam duration for this paper is of 2.5 hours.

CTET Paper – 2
Paper – 2 is for candidates who wish to teach in Class 6 to 8. Paper – 2 is an Objective Based Online Mode Exam. Paper 2 consists of 4 sections, namely, Child Development & Pedagogy, Language – 1, Language – 2, Mathematics & Science and Social Studies/ Social Science . Candidates have to choose between Mathematics & Science and Social Studies/ Social Science.
